I was born in the south(west) in Dallas, Texas. I feel like it is my duty to give Texans a better name. We’re not all cocaine cowboys, alright?
I currently live in the wonderful and depressing neighborhood of Hyde Park, which is on the south side of Chicago, and yes, south of the Loop. I also tend to be out of the loop in terms of pop culture, which my friends find to be a constant source of entertainment and disbelief.
I’ve always loved subways, but it took me a few weeks of living in Chicago to overcome my fear of buses. The thing with buses is that you have to know a little bit about where you are going, and with my directional ineptitude, that’s a pretty tall order. But now I know that Chicago buses stop practically every half-block, so even when I request the wrong stop, I usually don’t have to walk that far. Usually.
I love subway maps. And novelty socks. Sometimes my interests neatly converge: for Christmas, my roommate got me socks with this map on them. I live near(ish) the 63rd stop on the Red Line (but not in the ‘hood).
